Supply and Demand is the most important piece of information for key stakeholders in any housing market. But how do you unveil these fundamentals in markets with limited data? Here, we will share the Malaysian's experience of using public and private data in revealing location specific supply and demand of private and affordable housing in micro-neighbourhoods. Timely data is able to inform key stakeholders such as private developers and policy makers to supply the right housing in the right neighbourhoods at the right time, avoiding oversupply in the wrong locations. We will also share our experience in overcoming challenges in data acquisition and available technology to acquire data more economically and accurately as compared to traditional methods.
